Description

The Entrepreneurship in Construction Trade at Ideal Institute of Technology is a 1575-clock-hour, immersive training program for individuals who want to start and grow successful businesses in the construction industry. This program goes beyond technical construction skills by focusing on business development, project management, real estate investment strategies, and government contracting. Students will gain practical knowledge in launching and scaling construction businesses from home improvement companies and fix-and-flip ventures to government-funded projects. Real-world experience is built into the program through a Paid Work-Based Learning Opportunity, helping students apply their skills in professional settings while earning income.


Program Outline

The program is organized into seven 225-clock-hour courses designed to cover all aspects of construction entrepreneurship:

  • EP110: Introduction to Construction Entrepreneurship
    Explore the mindset and fundamentals of construction entrepreneurship. Develop a personal business plan and prepare for success in the trades and business world.
  • EP120: Construction Business Planning & Startup Essentials
    Learn how to register your business, choose a trade focus, estimate startup costs, and build a foundation for growth in the construction industry.
  • EP170: Project Management & Operations for Contractors
    Master scheduling, budgeting, crew coordination, procurement, and client communication—core skills for running efficient construction projects.
  • EP180: Fix-and-Flip & Real Estate Construction Strategy
    Understand how to assess property investments, estimate rehab costs, manage renovations, and generate profits through real estate construction ventures.
  • EP150: Home Improvement & Specialized Trades Business
    Learn how to start and manage a home improvement or specialty trade business (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, flooring) with a focus on local market demand.
  • EP160: Prevailing Wage & Government Contracting
    Gain insight into bidding on public projects, compliance with prevailing wage requirements, and leveraging certifications (MBE, WBE, DVOB, etc.) for contracting success.
  • CO150: Scaling Your Construction Business & Advanced Entrepreneurship
    Learn advanced strategies to grow your construction company—build your team, access funding, adopt new technologies, and expand into larger markets.
